Artwork Association for Curators.

What’s the point of a curator participating in the Artwork Association?

The purpose of the Artwork Association is to foster a collaborative environment. Whether you are experienced in this career, or just getting started, there are a variety of ways you may be enriched by participation.

Should you desire more practice at the admin side of working in the cultural sector, beyond what your current job offers, collaboration is a must. Oftentimes, in this sector there is specified range of networking you can do, with limited opportunity to instigate a project unless all the pieces fall into your lap concurrently. This can take some of the spontaneity out of creative collaboration, with results feeling formulaic and all too similar to prior projects. Once you have specialized within a certain arena, it can be challenging to take risks outside of what is expected.

The Artwork Association aims to help curators indulge their ideas and embark on time-bound passion projects. The concept is, if you know of a free Open Call or opportunity that interests you greatly, yet you have no working artist who fits the brief, you can source one from our network. This is mutually beneficial. The curator gets to explore a different arena of the art world, the artist is given support and publicity.

Engaging with new people within the arts and culture sector can be worthwhile in and of itself. The Artwork Association requires no specific time commitment and no financial contribution. It aims to be a method of engagement without the pressures associated with typical networking opportunities (e.g., a collector’s club, ticketed event, or pay-for-listing directory).

Social media downturn.

The Artwork Association and Artisttree Network is launching in response to recent unfavorable developments in the social media sphere. Emerging artists are finding it harder to gain an audience with many platforms losing credibility, popularity, or charging membership fees in exchange for promotion.

This platform intends to be a free collaborative space to assist creatives in networking with industry professionals who are excited about their work.

It is a chance to broaden your repertoire in terms of professional experience, foster enthusiasm for less-represented styles, and fill a variety of artistic briefs you otherwise would not have engaged with.

R-AA Gallery will also serve as an archive for the collaborative projects that occur and a platform for disseminating ideas and information.
